“For Valentine’s tomorrow. People are supposed to give out chocolate to those close to them. So…?”
“Why not? Don’t you love your Nori anymore?”
Taro stared at the pan before him, he didn’t need to recall that memory from the first year of high school to wonder what the hell he was doing. He’d even taken a day off work so he could do this while Satoshi worked the café. He rapidly told himself this was just friendship chocolate. A token of his appreciation for allowing him to stay.
“Come on, Taro. You’re the badass leader of After Dark, you can do this. Just a token of my appreciation!” He realised he’d had the pan in his hand when he swung his arms around and gasped as a blob of chocolate dropped to the floor. Rapidly he put it back and checked the cupboards.

I’m sorry, I know you loved dad’s shrine so much, the koi pond, the gardens, and all that stuff. I know I was s’posed to take over after dad. But my best friend, Taro, – remember the Shibata’s? Dad says you sat in on Taro’s dad and mum’s wedding – he made a band a couple years ago, and I joined as the guitarist, I’m really good already mother. So I don’t want to take over the shrine, I’ll pass it on to Aki-kun instead. I know you never met us because dad says you died when me and Akihiko were born, but we miss you loads. I hope you’re having fun in the sky, that’s where dad says Heaven is. Do you like sitting on the clouds? I wish I could go up there, they look really soft and comfy.
